The Doha International Book Fair (DIBF) 2020 is turning out to be an ideal venue for Qatar National Library (QNL) to reach out to people from various walks of life and bring its learning resources closer to the community, a senior official told Gulf Times Monday.
“The book fair is helping us reach more people. Here, they are provided with an opportunity to know what they can experience when they visit us and this draws them towards the library where they are welcomed by a treasure of knowledge,” QNL's Research and Learning Services director Abeer al-Kuwari said on the sidelines of the event.
QNL owns a rich collection of materials that could be utilised by everyone.
“With this collection, the library beckons children, students, researchers, academia and people from other sections of Qatar’s society. It offers what suits their taste and orientation,” al-Kuwari said.
Sharing her experience at the book fair, the QNL official said that visitors were made more aware of the facilities being provided by the library for the public.
“I met a visitor who was keen to make use of our materials and showed how can she access our online resources and read books,” said al-Kuwari.
QNL has set up a registration station at its dedicated space at the DIBF where members of the public can receive free membership.
Al-Kuwari said visitors tend to make use of the opportunity.
The interactive space has a number of heritage materials and manuscripts on display, including the Golden Mushaf that was produced in the 11th century, and Book of Antidote by Muhammad ibn Abi al-Fatih Abd al-Wahid.
“The material on display will further draw aspirants towards the library,” she expected.
Al-Kuwari pointed out that the library is keen to attend national events and recalled that it has been a part of the DIBF since its inception.
DIBF 2020 is taking place at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Centre until January 18.
The exhibition is opens daily from 9am until 9pm, except on Friday (from 3pm until 10pm) and Thursday (from 9am to 10pm).
