The electricity transmission and distribution networks of Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) marked a record by "showing unprecedented performance and bringing down electricity loss and interruption remarkably" in 2019.
According to a statement by Kahramaa, the index of the number of minutes of electricity loss in the electrical transmission network was recorded at 0.1785 minutes. The new figure is a record and the best rate achieved, it stressed. The target in 2019, according to global indicators, was 3 minutes. The indicator is calculated by dividing lost power and its duration by the maximum load.
When it comes to the distribution network, the indicators witnessed a distinguished performance where the average time of the current cut-off from the subscriber stood at 0.1894 times per subscriber. The target rate in 2019 was fixed at 0.364 times per subscriber. The index is calculated by dividing the number of subscribers affected by interruptions during the year by the total number of subscribers.
“The technical performance of the electrical network in 2019 witnessed a great improvement and reached unprecedented levels in the history of the electrical system in Qatar's transmission and distribution networks. Kahramaa succeeded in maintaining the continuity of electric current and meeting all the needs of the country round the clock,” the statement noted.
Kahramaa measures the performance of the electricity transmission and distribution networks according to global indicators to ensure the reliability and reliability of the network.
The performance index of the average interrupted periods of interruption in the electrical distribution network also witnessed a remarkable improvement in 2019. It recorded an average of 15.665 minutes per subscriber. The target rate in 2019, according to global indicators, was 45.5 minutes. This indicator measures the speed of Kahramaa's response to interruptions and is calculated by dividing the total periods of outages recorded during the year by the number of the total number of subscribers.
“Kahramaa is proud to achieve unprecedented performance levels in the history of the corporation during 2019. Thanks to the efforts and maintenance programmes by the institution, the replacement of old equipment and updating specifications,” the statement said.
The materials, used by the network components, the conversion of overhead lines to ground cables and the application of innovative mechanisms and programmes to ensure the condition of equipment along with monitoring, fault detection, timely repairing works and rapid response to faults through emergency helped the corporation achieve the record.
Offices and task forces in the main regions of the country and failure analysis to avoid occurrence as well as workshops to educate contractors to avoid cable damage during drilling also resulted in the achievement.
