*New facility will enhance Qatar's healthcare services
HE the Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani opened Daam Specialised Care Centre of Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), at Hamad Bin Khalifa Medical City Thursday morning in the presence of a number of ministers and other dignitaries.
HE the Minister of Public Health Dr Hanan Mohamed al-Kuwari, HE the Minister of Municipality and Environment Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki al-Subaie, HE the Minister of Justice and Acting Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Dr Issa Saad al-Jafali al-Nuaimi, Daam chairman and Qatar Central Bank (QCB) Governor HE Sheikh Abdullah bin Saoud al-Thani and senior officials of HMC were present.
HE the Prime Minister toured the Centre where he was briefed on the various specialised facilities for healthcare services, including physiotherapy, occupational therapy and other medical and nursing services in a home-like environment for elderly patients.
The opening of the new Centre will provide an increase in the clinical capacity of the existing Enaya centres which have provided extended care services to patients since 2010.
HE the Prime Minister also listened to an explanation about the health services provided as part of medical follow-up and treatment care round-the-clock by a specialised team of doctors and nursing cadres, based on a special treatment plan for each patient commensurate with his individual needs, in addition to medical evaluation services, treatment and rehabilitation care.
HE Dr al-Kuwari described the Daam Specialised Care Centre as an important medical facility that will enhance the country's health careservices dedicated to the elderly.
“The Centre will provide a home-like environment for the patients that will allow them to get the support they need while enjoying their life better,” she said while recalling that Daam has been an important partner for healthcare development in the country, having previously provided financial support for neonatal care services at HMC.
"This new facility will have a lasting legacy for our population and improve our health systems’ ability to provide long-term care services in the country for the elderly. Residents of the Daam Specialised Care Centre will benefit from programmes and services that are tailored to the level of care they require. Like our Enaya Specialised Care Centers, this facility has been designed to create a comfortable, home-like environment in the community; a space that provides the best quality patient-centered medical care while supporting patients in regaining or maintaining optimal levels of functioning," said HE Dr al-Kuwari.
HE the Minister of Public Health cited the collaboration between Daam and HMC as an excellent example of how community partnerships can help reduce waiting time and ensure care services are available in the most appropriate setting.
She thanked Daam for their support of health initiatives.
It was in late 2017 that HE Dr al-Kuwari and Daam chairman HE Sheikh Abdullah bin Saoud al-Thani signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish the Daam Specialised Care Centre. The donation from Daam covered the full cost to retrofit and commission the new facility.
HE Sheikh Abdullah al-Thani said new specialised care facility supports both the organisations’ aim to promote the welfare of the people of Qatar on the social level.
The Daam chairman stated that the fund will continue to support and encourage initiatives that contribute to achieving Qatar’s national vision in all vital sectors.
The Daam Specialised Care Centre is connected to the Enaya Specialised Care Centres via a link bridge, allowing for efficiencies in staffing, equipment, and space. Chief of Continuing Care at HMC Mahmoud al-Raisi said in the coming weeks patients will be transitioned to the new facility.
"The first and second floors of the facility will provide care for elderly patients who require long-term mechanical ventilation, while the third and fourth floors will care for older adults with dementia, other forms of cognitive impairment, and those who require functional rehabilitative care," he explained.
Unlike a traditional hospital environment, the Daam Specialised Care Centre has been tailored to meet the needs of longer-term care patients. All rooms are private, have enough space to accommodate family and include an en suite bathroom. They also feature a wide range of artworks from a number of renowned Qatari artists. Al-Raisi added.
The first Enaya Specialised Care Centre opened in 2010. Then called the Skilled Nursing Facility, it was the first-of-its-kind in the region, providing round-the-clock monitoring and treatment from specialist nurses and doctors. Five years later, the facility was expanded to meet the needs of the country’s growing population and in 2015 the Enaya Specialised Care Centres 1 and 2 officially opened. Today, these facilities provide a healing environment with over 150 patient beds.
In recent years, HMC has made major strides towards redefining continuing care in Qatar. In addition to the two existing Enaya Specialised Care Centers, the Corporation operates two community-based facilities in Muaither and a multi-disciplinary Home Healthcare Service which cares for patients across Qatar.
