* 5,000 runners expected at start line

International running superstars will line up with local participants at the start line of the 2020 Ooredoo Doha Marathon, one of the most popular events on the sporting calendar, Friday.
The 2020 Ooredoo Doha Marathon features a range of distances, from a 1km children’s run to the full 42.2km marathon, ensuring that the event is accessible to all. The starter’s gun for the full marathon will be fired at 6.30am, followed by staged starts for all other categories, culminating in the 1k race at 9.30am.
This year’s event participation is "record-breaking", with more than 5,000 runners signed up to take their places at the start line, Ooredoo has said in a statement.
The marathon is known for its "electric atmosphere, both for participants and spectators", with plenty of vantage points from where families and friends can enjoy the action on the tarmac, the statement notes.
All Doha residents are encouraged to come along to offer support and encouragement to those taking part, as well as to enjoy the various activities that will be available in MIA Park for all the family.
Organisers have advised that all race packs must be collected prior to the event, with teams of volunteers handing out the packs at the Museum of Islamic Art Park Wednesday and Thursday, from 4pm until 10pm. No race pack collection will be available on the day.
All race participants are also reminded that they should arrive at the gathering point well in advance of their race start time tomorrow morning, as the event – as always - has attracted a record number of participants and is expected to be "phenomenally busy", the statement points out.
Manar Khalifa al-Muraikhi, director of PR and Corporate Communications at Ooredoo, said of the event: “We’re extremely proud to be hosting yet another Ooredoo Doha Marathon, and proud to say that, yet again, we are expecting an incredible event with a record number of participants and spectators.
"It’s always a great pleasure to welcome so many international athletes to Doha and to see so many citizens and residents getting involved in an event that promotes a healthy, active lifestyle, in line with our corporate social responsibility strategy. We extend our sincere gratitude to all our sponsors who help us make the marathon happen, and of course we wish all the runners the best of luck for a successful race.”
