The Qatar Cricket Association (QCA), under the Presidency of Yousef Jeham al-Kuwari, has been busy with preparations for another international event, following the success of the Qatar T10 International League.
The QCA will stage the Four-Nation Twenty20 International Tournament for women from January 16. The participating teams are China, Kuwait, Oman and hosts Qatar. The round-robin cum knock-out event will end on January 22 with the third-place playoff and the final at the Asian Town Cricket Stadium, Industrial Area.
QCA President Yousef Jeham al-Kuwari said in a press release that the QCA is ready for another international event after organising the inaugural Qatar T10 International League.
“Following the successful staging of the Qatar T10 Cricket League, the Qatar Cricket Association is making elaborate arrangements for the Four-Nation Women’s T20 International Tournament, which will be played at the Asian Town Stadium from January 16 to 22.
“China, Kuwait, Oman and hosts Qatar will be contesting in the event for the top honours. We are grateful to the International Cricket Council for giving recognition and support to this event.
“Our aim is to give opportunity to the Qatari women cricketers to play against other countries and help the QCA develop the sport in the country and the region,” he added.
“We are quite optimistic that the local fans will turn up in large numbers to support the event and encourage all the participating teams,” al-Kuwari said.
QCA Operations Manager Manzoor Ahmad, while giving details of the tournament, said, “Our new season has been quite busy this time. Recently, we hosted the Qatar T10 Cricket League and now we are giving finishing touches to the Four-Nation T20 International Women’s Cricket Tournament.
“After the single round-robin, two top teams will play the final, while the third and fourth teams will contest in the third-place playoff on January 22. At the moment, we are reviewing all the arrangements from receiving the teams to transportation, accommodation, ground and sending them off.
“Qatar is known for its hospitality and top-class event management. On the same lines, we will host this event as well,” Ahmad added.
The QCA has appointed Shivani Mishra, who is also an international umpire, as the team manager.
Mishra said that the Qatar national team is extremely excited about featuring in the international event. “The Qatari players are feeling excited and motivated about the upcoming Four-Nation T20 Tournament. We have picked about 40 players for the preparatory camp.
“In the first week of January, 2020, we will select 18 players before declaring the 14-member national team for the event. The event looks quite tough with the presence of the Chinese team, which has a good ranking in Asia.
“We are holding practice sessions twice a week as our players are young students. We hope to put together a good team for the event,” she added.
