A 30-year-old woman has become the fifth person to be
mauled to death by a tiger in Indonesia's South Sumatra province this
month, local media reported over the weekend.
News portal Tribun Sumsel reported that the victim, identified as
Sulistiawati, was attacked on Friday near a local public bath in
Padang Bindu village of Muara Enim district. Her body was found
dismembered not far from the bath.
Genman Suhefti Hasibuan, the head of South Sumatra's natural
conservation agency, said on Saturday that he had received a report
from his field staff confirming the attack.
The victim's mother, Ratemi, told local media that her daughter left
the house in the morning to take a bath and to tend her durian
orchard but did not return in the afternoon. She soon realized that
her daughter could be in danger of encountering a tiger.
"My brother came home from his coffee field and told us that he had
crossed paths with a tiger, which he said was about two metres long,"
Ratemin was quoted as saying.
A group of villagers went to look for Sulistiawati and found her body
dismembered not far from the public bath, reports said.
