* The East Industrial Street Extension Project carriageway includes the second longest bridge in the country, at 1.7km

The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) Saturday opened the 2.5km-long carriageway of East Industrial Street Extension Project, that will emerge as a link between Qatar South and West Doha.
The carriageway, located between East Street 33 Interchange on Industrial Area Road and Aba Al Sleel Interchange on G Ring Road, includes the second longest bridge in the country, at 1.7km.
The project, scheduled for completion by the second quarter of 2020, is a vital link between Mesaieed, Al Wakrah and Al Wukair.

The carriageway will provide free flow of traffic between Hamad Port Road, G Ring Road, Industrial Area Road, Salwa Road and Al Furousiya Street.
The opening ceremony was held in the presence of Project Affairs director engineer Youssef al-Emadi and Highway Project Department manager engineer Bader Darwish along with other officials in addition to engineers from the contracting company.
Al-Emadi told Gulf Times that 87% of the project has been completed and works of the remaining parts are under way. “The carriageway is functional two months ahead of the schedule. The complete project that includes three signallised intersections, service roads, pedestrian tunnels and cycle paths will be operational by the second quarter of 2020."
Darwish explained that the new carriageway helps traffic from Industrial Area, Salwa Road and Al Furousiya Street directly reach Al Rayyan and Al Gharrafa.
The carriageway would facilitate goods movement between Hamad Port and Hamad International Airport and the Industrial Area as well as many surrounding economic facilities like the Asian Town and commercial centres and Free Zone. It will also serve malls, workshops, various factories, Karwa, Qatar Motor and Motorcycle Federation and the Qatar Motor Racing Club.
As part of the project, the road with two lanes in each direction was expanded to three or four lanes in each direction while the existing roundabouts were removed and three traffic intersections substituted.
A main bridge crossed by three lanes in each direction was set up. The road here, upon completion, will accommodate more than 12,000 vehicles per hour in both directions.
The project also features 10km pedestrian and cycle paths to serve the densely populated area. A pedestrian tunnel that facilitates transportation between Asian Town and Industrial Area will also be built.
The project includes afforestation and landscape works. Landscaping includes planting trees, shrubs, flowers and herbs across 77,000sq m. An irrigation network for all landscaping sites will be also set up.
Once completed, the project will emerge as a link between Qatar South and West Doha. Road users coming from Mesaieed, Sealine, Al Wakrah and Al Wukair will be able to directly reach Al Rayyan using Hamad Port Road and G Ring Road to reach Aba Al Sleel Interchange and continue until the newly developed Al Furousiya Street. Residents of Umm Al Saneem, Ain Khalid and Industrial Area road users can also use the new road towards Mesaieed and Sealine.
The three junctions will ensure easy access for traffic in the nearby areas to various parts of the country by remarkably reducing traffic time.
