Popular restaurants at Souq Waqif has recently seen an increasing turnout of customers who throng the venue to enjoy the various programmes of the Spring Festival that goes on until January 4.
A number of visitors to the festivals has told local Arabic daily Arrayah that they were keen to enjoy the popular local dishes in a festive atmosphere embellished by a great weather.
Most of the local dishes are being prepared and served by the productive families, who have great expertise in preparing them according to the traditional Qatari recipes. The dishes are prepared and served hot on the spot.
The sweets and nuts shops at Souq Waqif have also been experiencing a considerable increase in sales due to the constantly increasing footfall. To make the best of the opportunity many shopkeepers have reduced prices for a good number of items by 15-20% or even more. They told the daily that the festival has contributed towards increasing the sales, in some cases by up to 70%.
Mohamed al-Mohannadi, a visitor to the festival, said that people enjoy the hotly served local meals as they watch the entertainment programme within relaxing and joyous surroundings as they gather with their friends and family.
Abdulrazza, a worker at popular eatery at Souq Waqif, stressed that demand is very high for local Qatari dishes, especially from the tourists, who are curious about everything local and traditional, especially food.
Khalid al-Marri praised the skills of the productive families in making these distinctive dishes and serving them in an excellent way that appeals to all. He added that Qataris and expatriates alike go for these dishes.
Mohamed Sharif, a shop keeper, said that the festivities at the Souq has helped him to double sales, especially as more visitors throng the souq after sunset.
