The Indian Community Benevolent Forum’s (ICBF) insurance scheme was launched by Indian ambassador P Kumaran Wednesday. The function also marked the signing of a memorandum of understanding by ICBF president P N Baburajan and Damaan Islamic Insurance Company chief operating officer G Harikrishnan.
The scheme is implemented in association with Damaan Islamic Insurance Company – Beema, which facilitates the cover. Any Indian expatriate between 18-65 years can join. The registration process needs a valid Qatar ID. The premium is QR125 for two years while the coverage is QR100,000 in the event of death. The amount will be disbursed to the beneficiary’s families if valid documents are submitted after death. The scheme also covers permanent or partial disability up to a maximum of QR100,000, depending on the percentage of the disability.
The insurance scheme, aimed at protecting the families of Indian expatriates, mainly targets persons with low income including labourers and those who work in restaurants, supermarkets and barbershops. While launching the scheme, ambassador Kumaran congratulated the efforts of ICBF to implement such an innovative idea that supports the community. The ambassador also appreciated the support of Damaan Insurance Company and requested all organisations to work together to ensure the scheme reaches every Indian in Qatar.
ICBF has plans to carry out awareness programmes in order to ensure the participation of maximum beneficiaries. Indian Cultural Centre (ICC) president A P Manikantan and Indian Business and Professionals Council (IBPC) president Azim Abbas voiced their support for the scheme.
