Indian Cultural Centre (ICC) will conduct the Indian Community Festival with the theme 'Passage To India' on January 16 and 17, 2020 at Museum of Islamic Arts (MIA) Park. This was finalised by MIA's Learning and Outreach deputy director Salem Abdulla al-Aswad, in a meeting with ICC representatives. "The event will the first of its kind and an opportunity to appreciate the long-time Indian residents of Qatar who have contributed to the country’s growth," he said.
ICC president A P Manikantan recalled that the forum had conducted the community festival during 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2016, the latest one with the theme “Passage To India.” Previous experiences have shown up to 10,000 visitors to the event each day and the same is expected in this edition. ICC general secretary Seenu Pillai spoke about the highlights of the festival such as colourful cultural programmes from Qatar and different states of India.
A life size monument, stalls/outlets focusing on various customs/features/materials from different states in India and food outlets by licensed Indian vendors providing various Indian delicacies from different states of India are among the attractions.
MIA's academic programmes head Sarah Tose, acting deputy director of operations Abdulla al-Dosari, head of security Saad al-Kaabi, MIA Park engineer Yasser Shazly, senior garden specialist Rashid al-Muraikhi, MIA facilities specialist Kaiser Colomo and ICC's cultural and educational activities head Nayana Wagh, and cultural co-ordinator Nirmala Shanmuga Pandian were also present at the meeting.
