The Indian Community Benevolent Forum’s (ICBF) insurance scheme for Indian expatriates in Qatar will be formally launched Monday at the embassy by ambassador P Kumaran at 4pm.
“The scheme mainly targets Indian labourers and those who work in supermarkets, barber shops and small companies,” ICBF president P N Baburajan told a press conference Sunday at the Integrated Indian Community Centre (IICC).
The scheme is in association with Damaan Islamic Insurance Company – Beema, which facilitates the cover. Any Indian expatriate between 18-65 years can join. The registration process needs a valid Qatar ID. The premium is QR125 for two years while the coverage is QR 100,000 in the event of death.
The amount will be disbursed to the beneficiary’s families if valid documents are submitted after death. The scheme also covers permanent or partial disability up to a maximum of QR 100,000, depending on the percentage of the disability.
Baburajan said benefits could be covered if disability or death happens within or outside Qatar, adding that ICBF will assist the beneficiaries or their families to avail the coverage.
For claims regarding death or disability happening outside Qatar, a death certificate, attested by the embassy concerned in Qatar or any appropriate authority, will be accepted. The claim will be settled to the beneficiary named in the policy after getting the discharge note signed by the beneficiary and attested by ICBF.
The maximum turnaround time for claims payment will be seven working days from the date of receiving all the documents.
G Hari Krishnan, chief operating officer at Damaan Islamic Insurance Company, said the scheme is included in the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) fund of the company.
“Beneficiaries are insured without any health declaration or a medical examination. A help desk will function with the IICC in order to help the applicants,” he explained.
Baburajan said intensified awareness campaigns will be carried out among Indian expatriates in co-operation with various organisations in order to enrol maximum workers in the scheme.
“The scheme has come as a new year gift for Indian expatriates and will help thousands of low-income individuals,” he added.
ICBF officials Mahesh Gowda, Avinash Gaikwad, Juttas Paul, Subrahmania Hebbaglu, Santosh Kumar, Nivedita Ketkar, Rajani Moorthy, Jerry Babu and Abdulrahoof Kondotty also attended the press conference.
