In order to ensure the highest levels of security for spectators during the 2022 FIFA World Cup, the Security Committee at the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) has opened an International Police Co-ordination Centre (IPCC) in Doha.
According to a statement by the Ministry of Interior (MoI), the centre has an operating room that’s managed and supervised by SC. It has been provided with the latest advanced technological means and the necessary infrastructure in order to perform its role and achieve its goals.
A group of young trained Qatari officials along with a number of police officials have joined the centre that has started working with the opening of FIFA Club World Cup with the co-operation with the International Criminal Police Organisation (Interpol). The centre exchanges information between representatives of the international police and Qatar in order to manage crises.
First Lieutenant Hamad al-Nasr, assistant commander, IPCC, said the centre has qualified young cadres representing the departments concerned that function under the umbrella of the security committee. “During the FIFA Club World Cup, the centre was opened with an aim to enhance capabilities and identify mechanisms for joint action. Officials have been brought from Brazil, France, Mexico and Britain in a bid to provide expertise and assistance in dealing with fans coming from these countries to attend the Club World Cup. IPCC focuses on managing the situation leads to fanaticism and if the encouragement deviates from the sporting spirit,” he said.
He added that the information and observations are monitored through surveillance cameras or by officers in the galleries or the fan zone area. “It analyses the information and observations, communicates with the persons concerned of sports facilities, co-ordinates with them and takes the necessary measures,” he said.
He said that the participating officers from abroad, that include 12 officers analyse and follow up what is being published in their countries through social media such as Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. These works are carried to reinforce assumptions and assess the possibilities about the actions of the masses from these countries in order to support our decision and enable us to anticipate the event.
He went on to say these officers carry lists of names of rioting fans and providing the centre with information and experiences about the behaviour of the coming masses along with the styles of their celebrations.
