Qatari contribution to promoting world peace and development hailed

The Gambian ambassador to Qatar Foday Mulang hailed Qatar’s efforts and contributions to promote peace and development in the world, stressing that Qatar is a model to be emulated at all levels.
In a statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA) on the occasion of National Day, the ambassador said that Qatar’s view of the world, is nothing short of world peacebuilding; genuine global friendship; supporting the less privileged global citizenry; and the quest for an appropriately educated world citizenry for a better world for all. Such a stance is not only worthy commendation but emulating, so one can only encourage Qatar to continue showing the way, he added.
The ambassador extended, on behalf of Gambian President Adama Barrow, the Gambian embassy and the community in Qatar, congratulations to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani on the occasion of the National Day, praying for Allah’s continued protection, guidance, and blessings on the people of Qatar.
Marking this historic day here in Qatar reminds both citizens and residents of the giant strides taken by the Founder Sheikh Jassim bin Mohamed bin Thani to consolidate a feeling of renewed allegiance and strengthen efforts to advance the goals and aspirations outlined by Qatar National Vision 2030, the ambassador said.
Qatar National Vision 2030 ushered in a more modernised way of thinking, opened new horizons and defined the features of the society that the government and peoples of Qatar aspire to establish, he said, adding that this roadmap continued to gradually follow with clarity and sense of purpose by all yielding significant transformation in Qatari domestic and foreign policy regardless of challenges posed.
Hence Qatar continues to register one success story after another in its conquest of the set national goals at all levels and in all sectors internally and externally to deliver Vision 2030 within which lies a self-reliance drive by the strengthening of national products as a key priority which is becoming more and more evident with time, he underlined.
The ambassador affirmed that Qatar has registered tremendous success in various areas, including the judicious and efficient use of natural resources, such as gas and energy resources, maximising the ideals of Public Private Partnership (PPP) strategy within and outside Qatar, financial sustainability premised on continued rationalisation of expenditure through increased efficiency of spending and revenues to finance developmental projects and programmes including the building of smart cities, road and rail networks, improving the co-ordination and communication among development partners in the country, hence transforming Doha into an open door “majlis” for diplomacy, and the optimal response to the current blockade on Qatar by turning challenges thereof into opportunities for steadfastness, and catalysts for maximising the values of work and achievement.
The bilateral relations between the governments and the peoples of the Republic of The Gambia and Qatar are growing at a highly promising rate, he said, expressing gratitude to Qatar and its people for all the assistance provided to the Gambian people at this stage.
Much work had been done in rekindling the already existing cordial bilateral relations between the two countries which were further strengthened by the signing of seven memorandums of understanding and agreements within 2019 in the areas of education, youth and sports, legal affairs, customs and excise, information and communication among others while more are still being fine-tuned for eventual signing, the ambassador pointed out.
He also noted that Qatar partook and, like other friendly states, pledged in The Gambia International Donors’ Conference held in Belgium in May 2018, followed by significant financial assistance in support of the now ongoing Transitional Justice Programme (Truth Reparations and Reconciliation Commission  TRRC) in The Gambia.
The ambassador stressed that the high-level visits between the two countries indicate the increasing trend in the strengthening of bilateral ties, such as the state visit of President Barrow to Qatar in September 2019, and most recently the visit of the First Lady Fatou Bah Barrow of The Gambia in November as a guest for WISE 2019.
