Belgian ambassador to Qatar Bart De Groof affirmed that his country’s co-operation with Qatar in the field of energy has grown significantly during the past year, noting that Belgium is a major gateway for Qatari gas to reach northwestern Europe.
In a statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA) on the occasion of National Day,  the ambassador said that Belgium and Qatar are closely working together commercially and economically, for example in the fields of technology, engineering and in the service industry.
The ambassador praised the extremely strong relations between Qatar and Belgium, adding that the meeting of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani with Belgian King Philippe in 2018 was an example of that.
He expressed heartfelt congratulations to the State of Qatar, His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, the government and people of Qatar on the occasion of National Day, describing it as a day of pride and celebrations for all Qataris and many expats who live and work in Qatar and share in this special moment. Together they are contributing to the further development of this beautiful country, the ambassador added.
Regarding the unjust blockade imposed on Qatar, the ambassador said that Qatar has shown a remarkable resilience in the face of challenging circumstances over the last couple of years. He added that Qatar has always reacted wisely, remaining open to all discussion and interaction with everybody.
He pointed out that the recent Gulf Cup was a very fine example, when Qataris welcomed everybody with open arms and in a friendly manner. Likewise, he added that Qatar always emphasised the need for the rule of law, as well as in international relations, and has consistently worked through the United Nations multilateral system to make its voice heard.
