Qatar Charity (QC) participated in an exhibition organised by the Qatar Scouts and Guides Association to mark International Volunteer Day (IVD) 2019 under the theme ‘Volunteer for an inclusive future’.
QC has previously organised, in co-operation with the Mental Health Friends Association (Weyak), a lecture, at its headquarters, on the psychological aspects of giving, to provide volunteers with humanitarian work skills. Some 120 volunteers, both male and female, attended the lecture delivered by Prof Nasser Amanafi, a mental health expert at Weyak.
The lecture was delivered as part of a series of training workshops and lectures that Qatar Charity intends to provide with the aim of building a new generation of volunteers to engage them in humanitarian action to benefit the community, a press statement noted.
QC’s pavilion at the exhibition included publications and books documenting some Qatari youth volunteer experiences and highlighting Qatar Charity’s experiences in integrating volunteers and supporting youth initiatives through its various media programmes, projects, activities and campaigns.
The pavilion also included presentations on QC’s humanitarian, developmental and charitable programmes, projects and activities implemented across the globe.
The pavilion was visited by Yusuf Ali al-Kazim, president of the Arab Federation for Voluntary Activity, in addition to many of the exhibition’s attendees, who praised Qatar Charity’s role and efforts to preserve human dignity, provide assistance to those in need, intervention in times of crises and disasters, and to develop poor societies.
IVD, mandated by the UN General Assembly, is observed every year on December 5. It is viewed as a unique chance for volunteers and organisations to celebrate their efforts, share their values and promote their work among their communities, non-governmental organisations, United Nations agencies, government authorities and the private sector.
Qatar Charity works to raise awareness about the importance of volunteering work by providing training and courses to those interested in humanitarian action, the statement added.
