The Shura Council on Sunday held the 6th meeting of its 48th regular session chaired by its Speaker HE Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Zaid al-Mahmoud.
The council, during the session, discussed Qatar's draft public budget of fiscal year 2020, and the draft budget approval law, in presence of HE the Minister of Finance Ali bin Sherif al-Emadi; HE the President of Public Works Authority (Ashghal) Dr Saad bin Ahmed al-Muhannadi and senior officials in the Ministry of Finance.
HE the Minister of Finance explained the government's view on the draft budget and answered questions and inquiries from members of the council.
At the outset of the discussion of the draft budget, the Speaker thanked His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani for his wisdom, directives and good policies that enabled the country to occupy this prestigious position and to achieve the highest rates of economic growth despite the unjust blockade imposed on it.
HE al-Mahmoud said: "It is a matter of our satisfaction to find directives and visions of His Highness the Amir, reflected in the draft budget and embodied in its goals, foundations and philosophy. He added that the draft budget is one of the fruits of this wise policy and sound economic planning, with its goals and bases, which include providing the necessary allocations for the plans and projects of Qatar National Vision 2030 and the requirements of the second strategic plan 2018-2022 with its various economic, social, human and environmental pillars as well as providing financial allocations for the completion of major projects and those related to the 2022 World Cup.
It also included allocating financial credits to develop infrastructure in the free, economic, industrial and logistical zones; developing the lands of citizens, supporting initiatives for developing business environment to enhance the role of the private sector and its participation in various economic activities, and supporting food security projects as well as small and medium enterprises.
The Speaker stressed that the foundations on which the draft budget were welcomed, praised and supported by the Shura Council, especially as it (the draft budget) came in harmony with the principles, directions and visions contained in His Highness the Amir's speech at the opening of the 48th ordinary session of the Shura Council on October 5.
The Speaker thanked HE the Minister of Finance; HE the President of Ashghal and the accompanying team for attending the session of the Council and attending to its members' inquiries.
After extensive in-depth discussions, the Shura Council commended the State's Draft public budget of Fiscal Year 2020, as well as the efforts of the esteemed government and the plans and programmes that it is implementing within the framework of the National Development Strategy 2018 2022 and Qatar National Vision 2030.
Meanwhile, the Financial and Economic Affairs Committee of the Shura Council un Sunday held a meeting, presided over by its rapporteur HE Ali bin Abdullatif al-Misnad.
During the meeting, the Committee completed its study of the Decree Law No 24 for 2019 on regulating and managing the strategic stock of food and consumer goods, and decided to submit its recommendations thereon to the Shura Council.
