HE the Minister of State for Energy Affairs and President and CEO of Qatar Petroleum Saad bin Sherida al-Kaabi said that the National Day is not a normal day for the Qatari people and the state, or an occasion to recall or commemorate a memory, it is a day that consolidates the feeling of belonging to this good land and loyalty to the wise leadership.
In statements to Qatar News Agency (QNA), HE al-Kaabi said that by celebrating this precious day we renew the pledge of loyalty to the homeland and to work together to bolster the foundations laid by the Founder for a better future and further splendor and glory, under the wise leadership of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani.
He noted that the Ministry of Energy and Qatar Petroleum is guided by Qatar National Vision 2030 which is based on the rational management of abundant hydrocarbon resources to ensure that living standards are raised for present and future generations.
He added that the energy sector in the country, led by Qatar Petroleum and its group of companies and projects, worked on the management and investment of the state's hydrocarbon resources in order to achieve sustainable development and convert these natural resources into financial wealth that supports the development of human resources and building the state's economic capabilities.
HE al-Kaabi said that this vision has been put into consideration while implementing many strategic projects in various sectors of the oil and gas industry, whether in the field of production, prospecting and exploration or in the petrochemical projects. At the forefront of these efforts comes the expansion project of the North Field, which will raise the production capacity of LNG from 77mn to 126mn tonnes per year.
He added that Qatar Petroleum is currently working on a project to build and operate a new global petrochemicals complex in Ras Laffan Industrial City with a production capacity of 1mn and 900,000 tonnes per year, in order to maximise the benefit of ethane produced from the various North Field projects. He explained that the petrochemicals complex project will include two high-density polyethylene units with a production capacity of 1mn tonnes each. The project is expected to start production in 2025.
Meanwhile, HE the Minister said that Qatar Petroleum has adopted a global expansion strategy that embodies the vision of His Highness the Amir to expand and enhance Qatar's leading role in the field of energy at the global level. Together with its partners, QP carried out prospecting and exploration projects in a number of South American and African countries, as well as the Eastern Mediterranean and the Arabian Sea.
QP has also strengthened its global presence through a number of LNG export and reception ports, such as the South Hook LNG terminal in the United Kingdom, Zeebrugge LNG terminal in Belgium, Adriatic LNG terminal in Italy, and Golden Pass LNG terminal in the United States, he added, praising the leading role of Qatargas, the global liquefied natural gas giant, in providing clean energy to consumers across the globe.
HE al-Kaabi pointed out that QP has also implemented several projects in Ras Laffan aimed at preserving the environment and reducing greenhouse gases. Hundreds of millions of dollars have been invested in these projects. He underlined that Qatar Petroleum has ambitions to expand in various countries around the world and to grow significantly in the markets where it exists, and will continue to search for new opportunities and markets to achieve its objectives in the medium and long term to become one of the best national oil companies in the world, with deep roots in Qatar and a distinguished international presence.
