Pakistan ambassador Syed Ahsan Raza Shah has expressed condolences on the demise of Sheikha Mariam bint Abdullah al-Attiyah, mother of the Prime Minister and Interior Minister of Qatar, HE Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani.
According to a statement from the Pakistan embassy, the envoy said he was deeply saddened by the loss experienced by HE Sheikh Abdullah and the family. He further stated, “Our thoughts are with you and your entire family. We pray to Allah the Gracious to shower His countless blessings on the soul of the
deceased”.

Recruitment procedures for Lankan workers discussed

The Qatar-Sri Lanka Joint Committee has met in implementation of the agreement to regulate the recruitment of Sri Lankan workforce in Qatar.
The Qatari side was chaired by Mohamed Hassan al-Obaidli, Assistant Undersecretary for Labour Affairs at the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs, and the Sri Lankan side was chaired by Yamuna Pereira, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Skills Development, Employment and Labour Relations.
During the meeting in Colombo, issues related to the procedures for recruiting Sri Lankan workers in Qatar were discussed. They also looked at measures to facilitate and streamline the recruitment process and see the qualifications and specialisations of the Sri Lankan workers, besides reviewing programmes and projects in the fields of co-operation in the agreement signed between the two countries as well as preparing joint programmes to raise employment awareness in Sri Lanka about Qatari legislation, laws and work procedures before recruitment.
The Qatari delegation paid a visit to the Qatar Visa Center in Colombo to review its work mechanism, especially the electronic signature of work contracts. —QNA
