Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani International Anti-Corruption Excellence Award is presented annually on International Anti-Corruption Day (December 9) and in recognition and appreciation to those whom have contributed to the global campaign against corruption. The award recognises individuals and organisations who have dedicated themselves to combat corruption in some capacity.

This year the fourth edition of the award will be presented at a ceremony in Rwanda on December 9.

Established in 2016, the International Anti-Corruption Excellence Award is designed to showcase creative and outstanding achievements of anti-corruption projects from across the globe and publicly acknowledge these exceptional efforts.

Awarded by the Rule Of Law and Anti-Corruption Centre (ROLACC), and presented in support of the anti-corruption mandate of The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the initiative promotes the importance of tackling corruption and encourages the implementation of the United Nations Convention against Corruption.

The awards honour those who have shown dedication to tackling corruption, and aim to inspire others to replicate similar efforts. Submissions from across the globe to nominate organisations, groups and individuals who demonstrate a commitment towards the prevention and control of corruption are given across four categories:

1. The Anti-Corruption Academic Research and Education Award, looking at academic research in the area of anti-corruption;

2. The Anti-Corruption Youth Creativity and Engagement Award, focussing on projects designed and led by young people and, where applicable, supported by civil society organisations;

3. The Anti-Corruption Innovation Award, intending to offer recognition and appreciation to innovative approaches and prominent contributions to the prevention of and fight against corruption; and

4. The Anti-Corruption Lifetime/Outstanding Achievement Award, recognising noteworthy and outstanding contributions made to support the global fight against corruption.

The greater purpose of the award is to serve as a tool that highlights exemplary and noteworthy actions and good practices on a global scale, to recognise, promote, collect and disseminate anti-corruption models from around the world; to raise awareness, support and solidarity to the fight against corruption; as well as to encourage and inspire similar and new initiatives towards a corruption-free society.

The award hopes that through its public image, the visibility of those whom are fighting corruption is not only enhanced but also celebrated across the world and hopes to motivate governments, academic institutions, the media and civil society to adopt and understand the principles of the United Nations Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC) and collaborate towards its implementation.
