The QatarDebate Center (QD), a member of the QF, has organised a training workshop on building critical sense and ideas among Police College students, with the participation of the officers and professors of the college.
The three-day workshop, which was concluded yesterday at the student centre in Education City, aimed at introducing the participants on how to apply the debates in the classroom and integrate them with other subjects as well as enhancing their ability to build ideas and justify actions from a sound logical perspective, especially that the debates subjects have been taught at the college as an optional one for three years.
In this regard, the workshop presenter Saad al-Assad stressed that the participation of police college students in local and international tournaments has given a greater attention among those in charge of the college to apply the principles of debates in building attitudes and benefit from the experience of professors and officers.
He added that the workshop included an interactive test between groups “with and against”, and how to make a full proposals and the adaptation to educational and evaluation means on the articles of the Police College related to crime, commercial law, police sciences and others.
For his part, an assistant professor at the Police College Major Dr Abdullah Thamer al-Enezi, explained that the debates are important materials for college students, the subject explains the information and give a broader concept of law, where the investigator in any crime put evidences and link them to the procedures and then determine the type of the evidence for each procedure and how to reach the truth.
One of the most important objectives of the workshop is to activate the legal subjects studied by the students and apply debates in the law so that the student put forward ideas and has the ability to analyse the legal text in different dimensions and reach the desired result, he added.
Officer of Academic Development Department at the Police College Captain Abdullah Hamad al-Ghayathen affirmed that the course is one of the subjects that promote mutual understanding between people and the most important means of communication in various stages of life and social.
The participants appreciated the role of the workshop in promoting sound thinking, criticism and the ability to analyse topics.
They pointed out that the workshop was rich in interventions, research methods and balance of views from a sound logical perspective.
