High-level delegations from Ecuador will visit Qatar this month to enhance bilateral co-operation, ambassador Ivonne A-Baki said yesterday.
“The delegations will attend some international conferences, meet key officials, and sign couple of agreements,” the Ecuador envoy told reporters at a conference.
Xavier Torres, an activist for the rights of specially-abled persons, will attend Doha International Conference on Disability and Development (DICDD) in Doha on December 7 and 8.
Torres is the president of the National Council for Disability Equality, representative of Ecuador and Latin America in the Committee of Nations Units for the Surveillance of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disability and government adviser in Disability and Minister of Urban Development and Housing.
He will attend the conference on behalf of Ecuador President Lenin Moreno in response to an invitation from Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser.
“The conference is a vital initiative for achieving tangible and lasting changes to the lives of people with disabilities across the world. And our president wants to pay much attention towards it,” she said.
Ecuador National Assembly President César Litardo will arrive Doha on December 7 to represent the country in the seventh Global Organisation of Parliamentarians Against Corruption conference that will be held from December 9-10.
“Ecuador is pleased to participate in the conference and support Qatar in its battle against corruption. It’s an opportunity for Ecuador’s delegates to participate in thoughtful discussions and workshops that are aimed at ensuring parliamentarians have the skills to combat corruption and to provide a platform to share challenges and successes,” the envoy said.
Ecuador Vice President Otto Sonneholzener will arrive in Doha on December 10 for a four-day visit. He will be accompanied by the minister of transport and public works and the minister of production, foreign trade, investments and fisheries.
Sonnenholzner will attend the inauguration of Doha Forum 2019, hold bilateral talks and visit institutions including Qatar Foundation, Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy, and Hamad Port. Two bilateral memorandums of understanding (MoU) on culture and port services will be signed during the visit.
The MoUs will be on expanding cultural ties and organising conferences and workshops. One MoU will be signed with Mwani Qatar for greater co-operation and management of respective national ports, and to improve and develop services.
“The aim of this visit is mainly to boost the bilateral cooperation and launch new opportunities for investment in both countries, as well as expand trade volume between the two countries. The MoUs will enhance the trade and help Ecuador find new markets for it’s products such as banana and chocolate in Qatar,” the ambassador said.
Qatar is keen to invest in Ecuador and efforts are on from two countries to further promote the investment in various industries of the Latin American country, according to the ambassador.
