The Shura Council held on Monday its regular weekly meeting under the chairmanship of HE the Speaker of the Council Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Zaid al-Mahmoud.
The council discussed a draft law amending some of the provisions of law No 15 of 2014 regulating charity work. The council agreed to refer the draft law to the Legal and Legislative Affairs Committee to examine and present their report regarding it.
The meeting also focused on discussing a draft law amending some provisions of law No 15 of 2011 on combating human trafficking. The council agreed to refer the draft law to the Internal and External Affairs Committee to examine and present their report regarding it.
The meeting concluded with the Speaker informing the members of his participation, along with an accompanying delegation, in the 42nd Conference of Speakers of Parliaments of the African Parliamentary Union (APU) which took place in Djibouti from November 25 to November 29.
The Speaker referred to the appreciation African parliamentarians had for Qatar, and the praise they had for the role the Shura Council is playing in enhancing parliamentary ties with African countries. This was reflected in the council obtaining an observer membership of the African Parliamentary Union. Qatar became the first non-African country to obtain the membership after the union amended its charter to allow members from outside the continent.
The Speaker also discussed with the members the meeting he held on Monday with a delegation from the US Congress which reviewed strategic bilateral ties between the two sides, discussed developing ties with the US Congress and the Shura Council, and reviewed a number of issues of joint interest.
Meanwhile, the Public Services and Utilities Committee of the Shura Council held a meeting Monday under the chairmanship of its Rapporteur HE Mohamed bin Mahdi al-Ahbabi.
At the meeting, the committee considered a draft law regulating medical treatment abroad and decided to complete its study at its next meeting.
