Thirty students from Abdul Rahman Bin Auf Preparatory School for Boys have participated, along with the Public Works Authority (Ashghal), in the planting of trees at the Al Wajba Street Planting Project.
This came as part of the ongoing ‘Qatar Beautification and Our Kids Planting Trees’ campaign, which will continue until the end of 2021.
Mohamed bin Saleh al-Khayarin, Central Municipal Committee (CMC) member for Constituency 16, said the CMC always has recommendations regarding the planting of trees on roads.
“There is constant co-operation between all governmental institutions to achieve the goals of the campaign,” he added.
Salem al-Yafei, deputy manager of Abdul Rahman Bin Auf School, said they were delighted to see the schoolchildren participate in the planting of trees.
He thanked Ashghal for implementing this important campaign.
Nasser Mohamed, a participating student, said: They talked to us about the importance of planting trees to preserve the environment and I benefited a lot, I am also happy to plant trees.”
Hazaa Mohamed al-Qahtany, another student, added: “I would love to see my country green and am happy to participate in helping achieve that.”
The Al Wajba Street Development Project, being implemented by Ashghal, includes planting 2,045 trees and 135,694sq m of landscaping.
The Supervisory Committee of Beautification of Roads and Public Places in Qatar is implementing the campaign under the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME), in co-ordination with several ministries and other entities of the State such as the Ministry of Transport and Communications, Ministry of Culture and Sports, Qatar Museums, Qatar Rail, Private Engineering Office and others.
The committee is responsible for five major tasks, including the construction of central public parks, provision of dedicated lanes for pedestrians and bicycles, development of the Doha Corniche, development of Central Doha and increasing afforestation and green areas.
The supervisory committee’s campaign will enhance sustainability through minimising environmental pollution and reducing the emission of CO2 through minimised consumption and conservation of energy resources.
It focuses on the provision of more public transport options aiming at the reduced use of private cars and improved lifestyle through clean and safe transportation.
It also works for ensuring a healthy environment within residential neighbourhoods and places of public gathering through increased afforestation and landscaping, which will greatly help in reducing the temperature in cities.
