*A rich programme that brings together 11 Arab and foreign countries

Katara–the Cultural Village is preparing to host the 9th edition of the Traditional Dhow Festival from December 3 to 16 with the participation of 11 countries. The latest edition of the festival features a programme full of activities, events and exhibitions, highlighting the history and maritime heritage and related traditional arts, in addition to competitions, cultural and recreational activities held in a pleasant atmosphere.
Visitors will see a unique presentation of traditional ships industry in Qatar through a marina on the beach of Katara, including restaurants and cafes, as well as workshops of traditional vessels manufacturing. The event will also feature the Qatar’s marine craftsmen market and will witness participating countries displaying traditional maritime craftsmanship and tools, including shipbuilding, ropes, sail and dredging machine.
Visitors will also have the chance to see and visit the old market where they can find all the needs of the sailors during fishing and diving trips, as well as the fish market, which offers various kinds of fresh fish, harvested from Qatari waters. The festival will provide visitors with the opportunity to taste an array of popular seafood dishes of participating countries: Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, Iraq, Turkey, India, Greece, Italy, Spain, Iran, and Zanzibar.
Maritime museums, meanwhile, will narrate important periods of maritime history, as well as folk band performances and art workshops for children. Apart from introducing maritime heritage in the evening, the festival also includes a forum that will host the crew of Fath al-Khair 4, which was launched last July from the Bosphorus Strait as part of a naval tour in Europe aimed at promoting the 2022 FIFA World Cup, which will be hosted by Qatar.
The forum will host ambassadors and governors of coastal cities visited by Fath al-Khair 4. Maritime competitions will be organised during the festival, including rowing, sailing, Al Haddaq, free swimming, Al Brikha, Al Jinan, Shoush and Tafris, in addition to Senyar competition.
