The first training course on the work of the United Nations, organised by the Ministry of Interior (MoI), started Monday, with the participation of 15 officers from various departments.
The five-day course deals with a number of topics related to the work and headquarters of the UN, and its agencies, charter, conferences, offices - in particular the UN Office on Drugs and Crime - and its various committees, including the Commission on Narcotic Drugs, the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, and UN standards and norms, conventions against transnational crime and its protocols, conventions such as the Convention against Corruption and the Mechanisms for Implementation in addition to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
Major General Dr Abdullah Yousif al-Mal, adviser to the Minister of Interior and chairman of the Follow-up Committee for the implementation of the World Programme for the Doha Declaration (issued by 13th Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice) said that the course aims to equip the officers with the required knowledge to participate in conferences organised by the UN with connection to the work of the Ministry of Interior, stressing that the course is of particular importance, as it opens wide horizons for participants to learn about the work of the United Nations, and develop their skills in this particular area.
In a speech at the beginning of the training course, he pointed out that the course would allow the use of officers participating in the work of the UN, and their attendance of the meetings of the committees of the General Assembly on the work of ministries of interior, and to participate in conferences held by the International Organisation such as the 14th UN Crime Congress which will be held in Kyoto, Japan from April 20 to 27, 2020, and conferences in Vienna and other conferences on drugs and others.
MoI Assistant Director of Human Resources and Pavilion Supervisor Colonel Dr Mohamed Hamad al-Gayathin stressed on the importance of the course, lectured by Dr Eduardo Vetere, an international expert in the UN, noting the ministry's keen interest in qualifying its cadres in various aspects to prepare a generation of officers to cope with the current requirements, to serve the security and stability of the homeland.
Colonel al-Gayathin also pointed out that this course is one of the quality courses held by the Human Resources Department in line with the strategy of the MoI and Qatar National Vision 2030, especially with regard to human development.
