Challenges and opportunities for developing more effective public policies provide the basis for the next public talk to be presented by the College of Public Policy (CPP) at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU).
Taking place on November 25, ‘The Past, Present and Future of Policy Design’ will discuss conceptualisations and the evolution of policy design processes. From there, consideration will be given to the present state of design thinking, as well as future prospects for more effective and humane public policies. In doing so, the talk will demonstrate that all public policies are either consciously or unconsciously a product of design.
Proceedings will be rounded off with a question-and-answer session. ‘The Past, Present and Future of Policy Design’ will be delivered by Professor B Guy Peters, Maurice Falk Professor of Government at the University of Pittsburgh (US) and founding president of the International Public Policy Association.
Professor Peters is also editor of the ‘International Review of Public Policy’ and associate editor of the Journal of Comparative Policy Analysis. His most recent publications include ‘Policy Problems and Policy Design’ and an updated version of ‘The Politics of Bureaucracy’.
Dr Leslie Pal, dean of CPP, said: “There is no one better qualified to speak about policy design than B Guy Peters.” For more information on the work of the College of Public Policy, visit cpp.hbku.edu.qa
