Rain, windy conditions and a noticeable drop in temperature are expected in the country next week as another phase of "atmospheric instability" has been forecast between November 18 until next weekend.

Doha and other parts of the country experienced a thunderstorm and a downpour on November 10, with other parts of the country receiving some rain over the next few days as well. This was in line with the earlier forecast for "unsettled weather" in the country from November 8.

Now, the Qatar Met department said "another state of atmospheric instability is expected to affect the country due to the extension of a low-pressure system over the region starting from Monday, November 18, until next weekend".

The weather is expected to "become partly cloudy to cloudy at times with improved chances of rain extending gradually over most areas in the country", according to a report issued on Thursday by the department. Ranging in intensity from moderate to heavy, the rain may become thundery at times and is to be accompanied by strong winds that will also cause blowing dust and low visibility in some areas, the report adds.

The prevailing winds during this period will be northeasterly to southeasterly (moderate to fresh), becoming northwesterly on November 20 and causing a noticeable drop in temperature, which will range from 15-25C across the country.

Meanwhile, the report says there are chances of scattered rain on Saturday and on Sunday as well, and may become thundery at times.

In view of the expected conditions, the Met department has urged people to take extra care, avoid marine activities from Saturday and follow the latest updates through its official social media accounts.

A minimum temperature of 16C is expected on Friday in Al Khor, followed by 17C in Dukhan, 19C in Wakrah and Mesaieed, 22C in Doha and Abu Samra, and 24C in Ruwais. The maximum, on the other hand, will range from 27C in Dukhan to 30C in Doha on Friday.

Thursday, a minimum of 17C was recorded in Al Khor, Ghuwayriyah, Turayna and Karana, followed by 18C in Dukhan and 19C in Mesaieed Sheehaniya and other places, while Doha (airport) had a low of 23C. The maximum, meanwhile, ranged from 28C to 31C, with Doha seeing a high of 30C.
