The second edition of the Arabic drama writers’ forum was launched yesterday in Doha with the participation of authors, academics, critics and artistes from 14 different Arab countries including Qatar.
In his address at the forum, HE the Minister of Culture and Sports Salah bin Ghanem bin Nasser al-Ali called on the drama writers and artistes in the Arab world to plunge deep into the Arab conscience to explore the strength of Arab culture and heritage and its various values and ethics. The aim, he explains, is for drama to reflect the contemporary Arab realities.
He also stressed that the Arab World is full of able thinkers and authors, especially the young people, who can express the various dimensions of the Arab culture and the aspirations of man for freedom, dignity and social justice.
The forum is considered a good platform for creativity and for discussing the major issues of the nation through drama works. The minister said that the Ministry of Culture and Sports gives great care to drama and creativity and dedicated an Arab Award for drama writing, with around 820 works submitted for the award in its first edition.  The entries came from different countries by writers able to write in Arabic and the award committees are reviewing the works to announce the winners soon.
A short documentary, produced by Qatar TV on the history and development of Qatari drama, was featured at the opening of the forum, which concludes today.
