The Zakat Fund of the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs has provided QR16,404,208 (more than QR16.4mn) to help with tuition fees eligible families, who have students enrolled in various levels of education in Qatar, for the 2019-2020 academic year.
Faiz Moazzi al-Shammari, head of Zakat banking department, explained that this assistance is allocated only to families eligible for assistance who have students enrolled in private schools and universities for this year, as well as family assistance in the rehabilitation fees of their children with special needs who are taken care of by the fund administration, pointing out that this assistance includes only tuition fees, or part of it according to the family’s need, in accordance the rules and regulations of Shariah.
Al-Shammari stressed that the project has become one of the distinct strategic projects adopted by the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs represented by the administration of the Zakat Fund, adding that the ministry pays great attention and priority to education, which is the basis of development and construction of the individual and society, in addition to it is one of the things urged by Qur’an and Sunnah.
He explained that the project of families’ aid in tuition fees was adopted by the Zakat Fund administration 23 years ago since the academic year (1996-1997) with 125 students. The project developed year after year and the number of beneficiaries increased to several thousand per academic year, he added.
He pointed out that the aid is in accordance with the value of fees approved by the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, and controls in force in the administration of the
Zakat Fund.
Al-Shammari explained that the Zakat Fund administration is still receiving applications for assistance in tuition fees for students enrolled in private schools and universities in Qatar for the new academic
year 2019-2020.
The documents required to seek assistance include a valid residence permit, a salary certificate for the student’s guardian from the employer, a bank account statement, a stock exchange account, a certificate from the Traffic Department for owned cars, a lease agreement, a Kahramaa invoice, a certificate of indebtedness if any, Qatar Credit Bureau disclosure, as well as other documents relating to study, fees and medical documents for people with
disabilities.
The family assistance office in the Zakat Fund receives applications throughout the school year to allow eligible families to receive assistance, especially with the timing of the school year in some schools in the country.
The office holds periodic meetings to consider the files submitted and the approval of the aid to the
beneficiaries. (QNA)
