Officials of Qatar Chamber held a meeting Saturday with a delegation from St Petersburg to discuss economic relations between Qatar and Russia, the chamber announced in a statement.
Qatar Chamber first vice chairman Mohamed bin Towar al-Kuwari met with Arbi Abubakarov, the deputy chairman of the Committee for External Relations of Saint Petersburg Government at the chamber’s Doha headquarters.
The meeting discussed enhancing co-operation relations and strengthening partnerships between the two sides, as well as exploring investment opportunities available in both countries.
Al-Kuwari said the Qatari business community is interested in identifying opportunities available in various sectors in St Petersburg and establishing partnerships with their counterparts “for the advantages of both sides’ economies.”
“The Russian city was among of the most important tourism cities during the World Cup 2018. There is a scope for both sides to strengthen co-operation in many areas for the good of both economies,” al-Kuwari said during the meeting.
Abubakarov said trade relations between Qatar and Russia “are growing fast” in the light of joint agreements and memoranda of understanding signed between the two sides.
He assured that his country “has a strong desire” to develop co-operation ties with Qatar in many areas. He also said Qatar will participate in the 24th edition of the St Petersburg International Economic Forum 2020 as Official Partner.
Abubakarov, who also stressed that the tourism and industry are the main sectors of St Petersburg, called on Qatari businessmen to visit Russia to explore the promising investment opportunities for foreign investors.
