Abdullah Abdulghani & Bros Co (AAB), the exclusive distributor of Toyota and Lexus in Qatar, held a community pallet recycling activity titled ‘Upcycling with Pallets’ as part of Qatar Sustainability Week 2019.
The week is an initiative of the Qatar Green Building Council to engage and raise awareness in the community regarding sustainable practices and provide a platform to promote the nation’s sustainability vision.
The community embraced the idea of ‘Reduce, Reuse, Recycle’ and actively participated in the upcycling event, AAB said in a statement.
Members of community organisations and families joined in to build furniture and other household items giving their best creative input and own designs.
The children were given the opportunity to create artistic coasters from the DIY Coaster Painting session and introduced to the concept of making something beautiful out of excess materials.
“Moving towards a sustainable business practice, AAB has been very active in recycling excess packaging materials by turning them into functional items, which is a major component of its Internal Sustainable Practices,” the statement noted.
Beginning the journey towards sustainability, the AAB Green Team was established consisting of AAB employees as its volunteers.
Since its inception, in the last three years, the AAB Green Team has produced functional furniture and storage materials made up of pallets that are now being used in various locations of the company.
“AAB is fully committed to giving back to the community through its CSR initiatives with one of its major pillars focused on caring for the environment. This commitment is reflected in its support to programmes geared towards a green Qatar,” the statement added.
During the recently held community pallet recycling event, three top designs were chosen as winners out of the participating teams.
