Doha Modern Indian School (DMIS), which had sent a message to parents on Wednesday saying that 2019-2020 would be the last academic year for the school, on Thursday said it had withdrawn the message.

"Consequent to our SMS dt 30th Oct 2019 and deliberations thereafter, we hereby withdraw the message and are happy to inform that the school activities will progress as normal," the school said in a fresh message on Thursday.

Parents of DMIS students were left a worried lot after the school sent a text message on Wednesday in which it said "we are constrained to inform you that due to unavoidable reasons, the last academic year of the school will be 2019-20 and hence you are requested to ensure places for your kids in other schools in Qatar for the academic year 2020-21. However, we shall update you on this matter in the coming days in case of any development otherwise. We are extremely sorry for the inconvenience caused to you and this message is sent to you as advance intimation."

It was not clear what prompted the announcement to close the school at the end of the 2019-2020 academic year, as well as the decision to retract it on Thursday.
