This weekend a lot of people will be busy celebrating Halloween, they will dress up as ghosts and witches and there will be Haunted House themed parties. My question to you this Halloween is what’s haunting your heart? What happens when you carry dead nations with you? What happens when your soul and heart are in anguish? What haunts your heart late at night?
No matter how much time we spend working on developing ourselves, no matter how much faith we have; we all have skeletons in the closet and things that haunt our souls. Maybe it’s something that might happen, maybe it’s something that already has happened many years ago, or maybe it’s something that you want to happen that just hasn’t happened yet.
I have realised over the years that you can’t escape what you carry within, and since I have to live with it, I have learned how to deal with it. As the years go by, the guilt, the hopelessness, the feeling of being offended or betrayed, the sorry and the feeling of fear that threat poses start to haunt you at night.
Walking the spiritual path has taught me, when you live and walk in the light, you can expose the ghosts that haunt you. It is possible to turn guilt into grace, it is possible to turn hopelessness into great faith, and it is possible to turn those times people have deeply offended us into an opportunity for forgiveness. All those years of sorrow can be turned into strength, what ever you are going through now is making you stronger for a brighter tomorrow, and those threats that keep you in a constant state of fear can be turned into an opportunity to have a deeper trust in God.
You can’t have a Haunted House once the lights are turned on. Once I learnt how to turn the lights on, I am not scared anymore. It’s not that I don’t have fear, but fear doesn’t have me. I hope this Halloween is an opportunity for you to overcome darkness and walk into the light.
