Reiterating that Qatar condemns every form of terrorism, a top official said yesterday that the country will continue it's efforts to combat terrorism and violent extremism.
“Qatar is taking up every effort to counter all forms of terrorism, extremism and radical violence,” Maj. Gen. Abdul Azeez Abdullah al-Ansari, chairman of the National Counter-Terrorism Committee (NCTC) told a session on “Crime and terrorism : national and international responses” at the ongoing 19th World Congress of Criminology.
“Qatar is stern on it's steps towards eliminating sources of terrorism including funding terrorism. The country’s efforts and diplomacy have proven that the country stands against all forms of terrorism unbatedly,” the NCTC chairman said while referring to the UN speech by His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani.
“His Highness the Amir has said “many countries have begun to realise the mistake of linking terrorism to a particular religion after they were subjected to terrorist operations with racist and ideological motives”. And he has made Qatar’s stand clear in his address to the UN General Assembly,” al-Ansari said.
While referring to the five-year partnership agreement between Qatar and the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism he said Qatar is keen to implement the UN strategy to eliminate terrorism. He added that Qatar is extending support to the efforts for the establishment of an international centre to apply behavioral visions to counter violent extremism.
