Nobel peace prize winner Mohammad Yunus must give
himself up before November 7 after an arrest warrant was issued
following a lawsuit filed by three former employees, the Bangladeshi
High Court ruled on Monday.
A labour court in Dhaka had issued an arrest warrant for Yunus and
two other executives of Grameen Communications after they failed to
appear.
Three plaintiffs have challenged the decision of Grameen
Communications to fire them after they say they tried to form a trade
union.
Yunus is the founder of the micro-lending Grameen Bank, which gives
loans to entrepreneurs too poor for traditional bank loans, and won
the Nobel Peace Prize in 2006.
He lost a legal battle after the government of Prime Minister Sheikh
Hasina removed him from the bank over retirement age regulations in
2011.
Grameen Communications, a not-for-profit information technology firm,
is one of a number of companies under the Grameen umbrella founded by
Yunus.
