Hamad International Airport (HIA) joined hands with Qatar Cancer Society (QCS) to show support for the Breast Cancer Awareness Month, observed in October, with multiple activities and events at the airport.
Free clinical examinations by qualified medical staff, as well as a series of awareness lectures conducted by QCS, were held for HIA, Qatar Airways, Qatar Aviation Services (QAS) and Qatar Duty Free (QDF) staff in order to educate them and raise awareness about the early detection of breast cancer.
An awareness booth was set up at the airport, where staff distributed breast cancer awareness leaflets and souvenirs that aimed to provide life-saving knowledge and tools related to the disease. A donation fund was also set up to support the breast cancer awareness campaign, where passengers travelling through HIA could donate.
As part of the initiative, breast cancer awareness messages have been strategically highlighted at key digital displays across the airport.
Messages were also spread through customer receipts at QDF with the aim of creating awareness among travellers and encouraging them, particularly women travelling through the airport, to get a breast cancer screening, HIA said in a statement yesterday.
"This initiative, which was joined by Qatar Airways, QAS and QDF, demonstrates the partnership’s commitment to highlighting the importance of breast cancer awareness and to support and advocate QCS’s dedicated work, which is one of the most important responsibilities towards the society in educating and spreading awareness about cancer and its reflections on communities in Qatar and around the world," the statement added.
