Ooredoo, which acted as Official Sponsor for the recently held ANOC World Beach Games 2019, Saturday said it considered the event "a resounding success from a telecommunications perspective, thanks to major network enhancements and state-of-the-art technology".
The ANOC 2019 World Beach Games was held from October 11to 16 at the Katara beach, Al Gharafa, Aspire Zone and Legtafiya Lagoon.
A total of 1,237 competitors from 97 countries across the world took part in the Games, which featured 14 disciplines spread across the four Doha locations.

Team Qatar took the silver medal in the hotly contested 4x4 beach volleyball event.
In preparation for the Games, as well as in readiness for future life-changing 5G use cases, Ooredoo recently modernised its network at all four Games locations to ensure that all attendees enjoyed the best possible telecommunications experience, the company said in a statement.
Ooredoo’s "ground-breaking 5G network and its state-of-the-art fibre", supported by teams of qualified, experienced experts on the ground, provided event-goers with market-leading telecommunications services during the Games.
An Ooredoo Operations Centre staffed by 50 telecom experts acted as a central hub, while more than 30 experts manned the Games areas to ensure "seamlessly reliable voice calling and the fastest network speeds".
The telecom operator’s teams reported achieving network phone speeds of up to 1.28Gbps using its 5G network.
The modernised network was able to handle some 800,000 voice calls made by 40,000 customers across the Games, who enjoyed high-quality VoLTE calls with record high set-up success rates of greater than 99.5%, the shortest call set-up times and less than a 0.2% call drop rate, the statement noted.
Yousuf Abdulla al-Kubaisi, chief operating officer at Ooredoo, said: “We were delighted to act as Official Sponsor for the recent ANOC World Beach Games 2019, support that fits perfectly with our corporate social responsibility strategy. As part of the development of our life-changing 5G network, we have been rolling out major network upgrades, and this event was also the perfect opportunity for us to demonstrate the enormous benefits of these upgrades to our customers.
"We are rightfully proud of the superior experience these network upgrades enabled us to deliver; full commercial availability of our phenomenal 5G network is quite literally just around the corner, and we look forward to showing Qatar exactly what an incredible difference 5G will make to everyday lives.
"And, of course, we offer our sincere congratulations to Team Qatar for winning an honourable silver medal in the 4x4 beach volleyball event.”
The success of the ANOC World Beach Games comes hot on the heels of similar achievements seen at the Amir Cup and the IAAF World Athletics Championships, where Ooredoo’s "ground-breaking 5G network and state-of-the-art technology" again meant that fans enjoyed a vastly augmented experience of a major sporting event.
"Several other events in the pipeline will give the telecommunications operator further opportunity to show just how life-changing its phenomenal 5G network will be for Qatar and beyond," the statement added.
