Qatar’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations Friday hosted this year's UN Day at the General Assembly Hall at the UN Headquarters in New York.
The event, delivered in collaboration with the support of the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC), Brand Qatar, Doha Film Institute and the Government Communications Office – was titled 'Building Prosperity for All Through Culture, Education, Gender Equality, Sports and Sustainability.'
HE the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister HE Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani and HE the Secretary General of the SC Hassan al-Thawadi gave keynote speeches.

Among the highlights of the event were a concert by the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by award-winning composer Eimear Noone, and live performances by prominent Qatari artists including Dana Alfardan, Aisha, Fahad al-Kubaisi and Hala al-Emadi.
Addressing the gathering, HE al-Thawadi said: "On this United Nations Day, it's important for us to recognise and appreciate the importance of any opportunity that has the power to unite people from different walks of life.
"In 2022, the World Cup will bring over a million visitors from every continent to Qatar. More than half of the world's population will dedicate their passion and emotion to the tournament.
"It's absolutely imperative that we as global citizens, proponents of international co-operation and strength through diversity and unity, recognise and appreciate the need to ensure these moments aren't remembered as missed opportunities."
In addition to al-Thawadi's speech, the SC was also represented by a number of US-based volunteers – who were among the 265,000 that registered with the Community Engagement team's programme earlier in 2019.
Attendees were also treated to a special film from Generation Amazing, showcasing the SC's sustainable development goals video - such as its commitment to delivering the first carbon neutral FIFA World Cup and using the power of football to reach over 1mn disadvantaged children across the world through the programme; among many others.
Later, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres and the UNGA President Tijjani Muhammad-Bande tweeted in appreciation of the 74th UN Day Concert, hosted by Qatar.
The UN Secretary General: “Music is a universal language in the richness of its diversity. Today’s #UNDay concert was an opportunity to remember our shared humanity and the values we hold in common united nations”.
The UNGA President: “Thanks to @QatarAtUN for bringing music to the #UNGA, a place where we spend most of our days striving for harmony! As we celebrate #UNDay and approach the #UN75 I am heartened that we remain committed to the ideals of the founders of our organisation”.
Qatar’s Foreign Minister tweeted: “We are pleased to host the 74th United Nations Day #UNDayQatar2019. A great gathering of art, culture, sport, and education for sustainable development and prosperity demonstrating Qatar’s strong support for the UN and #GlobalGoals #BuildingProsperity #UNDay”.
The Government Communications Office (GCO) Qatar also tweeted: "A member of the United Nations since 1971, #Qatar is firmly committed to the @UN's work in building peace & stability. We are honoured to have been chosen to host today's #UNDay2019 in New York. @QatarAtUN #UNDayQatar2019.
"At the #UNDayQatar2019 Concert, curated films by @DohaFilm played alongside performances by @qatar_phil & national artists. #Qatar is proud to have showcased some of our female filmmakers who are leading the way for the greater empowerment of women. @QatarAtUN."
