Jaidah Automotive, the official distributor of Chevrolet in Qatar, has hosted an event to celebrate Qatar’s world champion high jumper Mutaz Essa Barshim for his recent gold medal victory at the IAAF World Athletics Championships – Doha 2019.
Jaidah Automotive provided its Chevrolet audience and fans with an opportunity to meet and congratulate the star athlete in person at the Jaidah Square showroom. The Chevrolet team hosted visitors coming to show their support and get an autograph from the star athlete.
This isn’t the first time that the Chevrolet showroom was used to commemorate milestones in the country. To mark the success, a photo booth was also available for visitors to capture this special moment in sports history.
Earlier this year, Chevrolet Qatar announced its official sponsorship with Barshim as a brand ambassador. Thereafter, Chevrolet created a digital campaign to support him throughout his path towards the IAAF World Athletics Championships – Doha 2019. The campaign generated great feedback and engagement from the local community in Qatar, the company said in a statement.
The first video launched to commemorate Chevrolet’s digital campaign with Barshim won silver at the Cannes Lions corporate award in September. The video was produced by The Film House and directed by Omar Khalifa.
Johan Madarasz, Automotive marketing manager at Jaidah Group, said: “2019 is a special year for us as we witnessed our homegrown hero, Mutaz Barshim, win the prestigious gold medal at the latest world championship, and our video was awarded at the Cannes Lions Corporate Media & TV Awards. We are immensely proud to have him represent our brand locally and look forward to continue supporting his athletic journey, especially with the upcoming Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.”
Barshim said, “I would like to thank Jaidah Automotive and Chevrolet for their great support. I am really happy to be part of the Chevrolet Qatar family and look forward to continuing our strong partnership in 2020.”
Barshim is one of Qatar’s most respected athletes. Prior to his win this year, he received a gold medal at the 2017 World Championships in Athletics in London, a silver medal at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro and a bronze medal at the 2012 Olympics in London. His achievements led to him being named the 2017 IAAF Male Athlete of the Year.
