Thundery rain is expected in parts of the country by this afternoon, the Qatar Met department has said.
Winds, mainly northeasterly-northwesterly, will blow at speeds of 5-15 knots and reach a high of 22 knots in some places during thundershowers, according to the weather report.
There is no warning for offshore areas today.
The detailed forecast for inshore areas says relatively hot daytime conditions are expected today along with slight dust and scattered clouds. “There is a chance of thundery rain by the afternoon,” the report states.
Scattered clouds, meanwhile, are likely in offshore areas today.
The maximum temperature today is expected to be 36C in Abu Samra, Wakrah and Mesaieed, 35C in Doha, 34C in Al Khor and 33C in Dukhan and Ruwais. The minimum, on the other hand, will range from 24C in Abu Samra, Wakrah and Mesaieed to 28C in Doha.
Yesterday, a maximum temperature of 38C was recorded in Jumayliyah, followed by 37C in Sheehaniya, Karana and Ghuwairiyah, 36C in the Qatar University area, Abu Hamour, Abu Samra and Batna, 35C in Mesaieed and Turayna, and 34C in Doha (airport area), the Hamad International Airport area, Wakrah and other places.
The season locally known as Al Wasmi, which is marked by spells of rain, began recently and will last for 52 days, according to the Met department. Clouds move from the west to east during this period and rainfall at the beginning of Al Wasmi is usually an indication of a good rainy season.
This season is named so because it coincides with rainfall that helps certain local plants grow, such as helianthemum and geranium.
