Sidra Medicine has announced that WOFAPS 2019 has been accredited as a Group Learning Activity (Category 1) as defined by the Qatar Council for Healthcare Practitioners – Accreditation Department.
The accreditation has been approved for a maximum of 35 hours.
The WOFAPS (World Federation of Associations of Paediatric Surgeons) congress will be hosted by Sidra Medicine from November 1-3 at the Qatar National Convention Centre. The international congress, a first for Qatar, is expected to welcome more than 1,000 surgeons from all over the world, Sidra Medicine has said in a statement.
WOFAPS 2019 aims to cover the most cutting-edge advances in paediatric surgical care in addition to addressing the current challenges impeding optimal surgical care for children in high- and low-income countries, the statement noted.
Prof David Sigalet, chief of Patient Services at Sidra Medicine and president of WOFAPS, said: “We are now only three weeks away from one of the biggest surgical conferences in the Middle East and are pleased with the progress we are making towards hosting a stellar event. With a theme based on ‘Moving Collaboration, Education and Training Beyond Borders’, Qatar will be welcoming the brightest and innovative thought leaders in the surgical and medical field.
“The accreditation allows the attendees to learn and discover new best practice methodologies in paediatric surgical care. In addition, we are hosting several workshops that will offer attendees an opportunity to hone their knowledge and skills in their area of interest.”
The academic sessions at WOFAPS 2019 will be led by internationally recognised health professionals, who are experts in their field of practice. The accreditation also applies to several pre-congress workshops including live-surgeries that will be held on October 30 and 31.
Dr Mansour Ali, chair of Paediatric Surgery at Sidra Medicine and co-chair of the WOFAPS 2019 organising committee, added: “WOFAPS 2019 can be a considered a major educational symposium. The platform will create an opportunity for attendees to build important mentoring relationships, which is especially important for young surgeons and those working in isolation of large surgical centres and expertise.
“This is a unique chance to learn from some of the most eminent experts across the surgical spectrum. I am proud to say several of our own experts based in Qatar will be conducting workshops in surgical urology and laparoscopy with trainee doctors. There is much to learn and much to discover at WOFAPS 2019.”
