HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani, President of the Qatar Olympic Committee, has received the award for Contribution to the Olympic Movement from the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) at the ANOC Awards 2019. 
Earlier in the day, Sheikh Joaan had also won the ANOC Merit Award.
The sixth edition of the annual awards ceremony took place at the Katara Cultural Village during the XXIV ANOC General Assembly in Doha yesterday.
Sheikh Joaan was chosen for the award by an ANOC Jury, comprised of the President of each Continental Association, representatives from the Association of Summer Olympic International Federations (ASOIF) and representatives from the ANOC Athletes’ Commission.
“I would like to thank my colleagues in the Qatar Olympic Committee and the local organising committees for all the competitions we have helped organise. Thank you to IOC president Thomas Bach and acting ANOC president Robin Mitchell. This award goes to all of you too,” Sheikh Joaan said.
Top male and female athletes from different continents were also honoured.
Ali al-Khorafi of Kuwait, who won the Male Athlete of the Year of 2018 Asian Games said: “This award goes to all athletes in Kuwait and especially to the equestrian athletes. I dedicate this award to Sheikh Ahmad al-Fahad al-Sabah. Thanks to my family for their support. I also dedicate this to the Kuwaiti Olympic Committee.”
