The Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption Centre (ROLACC) in Doha signed a co-operation agreement with Sultan Qaboos University, to establish an academic chair at the university to fight corruption.
This marks the continuation of co-operation between the two sides, especially between the Centre and the College of Law at Sultan Qaboos University.
The agreement was signed by HE the Attorney General and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of ROLACC Dr Ali bin Fetais al-Marri and the President of Sultan Qaboos University Dr Ali bin Saud al-Bemani, at a ceremony held on this occasion at the University in Muscat.
The establishment of this chair at the College of Law at Sultan Qaboos University aims to institute a course on the provisions of the United Nations Convention against Corruption based on the United Nations Convention against Corruption.
The establishment of this chair also helps to spread the legal culture among the students of the college and the university community on the subject of combating corruption and the legal followed mechanisms by organising legal activities among the students such as legal researches, mock trial competitions and workshops and conferences supported by ROLACC.
The agreement between the Centre and Sultan Qaboos University is the culmination of joint efforts exerted in this field.
Through its branches, ROLACC works with the United Nations in promoting anti-corruption, developing conventions related to this subject and organising international initiatives.
The President of Sultan Qaboos University Dr Ali bin Saud al-Bemani said that the establishment of this chair comes in recognition of the university's reputation in general and the College of Law, especially since it was one of the first universities in the Arab world launching a specialised chair to fight corruption.
