The committee provided the highest security standards for the sports facility, a statement by the Ministry of Interior (MoI) said Wednesday.
The SC's Security Committee Lt Colonel Dr Jabr Hamoud al-Nuaimi said the match on Tuesday showcased Qatar's ability to secure all the tournaments to be held in the country.
There was great co-operation between the police officers and the organisers, he pointed out. Many security personnel were assigned to guide the public to parking places or their seats on the gallery. The traffic unit made great efforts in controlling traffic on the main roads to the stadium and deploying supporting patrols to ensure smooth transport for the public to reach the stadium.
Major Mohammed Thani al-Hamli, commander of al Janoub Sports Stadium, said that the security operation was managed through the operations room linked to the National Command Centre.
“The security units participating in the mission applied the security mechanism that’s used worldwide to manage the movement of the masses. The security committee identified and confiscated a number of prohibited objects, including fireworks, glass bottles, small strollers, sharp machines, pets and other hard objects.
“The security missions were successfully carried out through co-operation of all security units of the Security Committee of the SCDL,” said Lieutenant General Hassan Ali Abdul Aziz, assistant commander of Al Janoub Stadium. The committee managed to provide all security requirements in addition to securing players, officials, and the public.
Captain Mohamed Ali al-Kowari from the National Command Centre said that the Security Control and the Operations Room had a big role in linking the security units involved in securing the match and security surveillance of all the stadium facilities through cameras deployed inside and outside the stadium.
Lt. Fahad Khalid al-Nuaimi, Officer of the Competitive Facilities Unit, said the unit made sure that all the facilities of the stadium were safe, before the match. He said that the Civil Defence had prepared an evacuation scenario.
First Lt. Aidarous al-Sayyid Abdullah of the Traffic Security Unit said that all traffic patrols and supporting patrols from the Lekhwiya and Al Fazaa forces did an exemplary job in ensuring a smooth traffic flow to and from the stadium.
