The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) will host an international conference and workshop, 'Recognising Lean Transformation in Public Sector - LIPS Qatar 2019'.
Said to be the first of it's kind in the Middle East, the workshop, according to a press statement by Ashghal, will be held at its headquarters on October 23 and 24.
The event will be organised in partnership with Qatar University's College of Engineering and the Lean Construction Institute - Qatar. It will be attended by experts and speakers from Qatar, the US, UK and Finland.
Ashghal's hosting of this international event comes as part of its strategic partnership with the Lean in the Public Sector, a Michigan, US-based organisation. It was established in 2007 as an international forum to help individuals and collectives from around the world gain a better understanding of the research and implementation of Lean concepts and tools in the domestic and international public sector projects. It's inception was also aimed at sharing lessons learned and experiences in this field.
LIPS primarily looks to expand Lean design and construction ideas to the government construction projects based on the importance of public sector projects and there role in urban renaissance. Since 2014, this aim has evolved to include the application of Lean Thinking to government operations and non-profits, in general, supporting the development of new and more effective ways to deliver projects, in addition to improving the efficiency and quality of government services.
The conference and workshop has been welcomed by the construction and engineering industry in Qatar and is supported by platinum sponsor Al Jaber Engineering, platinum sponsor WSP - Middle East, platinum sponsor Consolidated Contractors Company, gold sponsor Tekfen Construction, gold sponsor Sacyr Medgulf JV and gold sponsor Qatar Trading and Contracting Group.
