Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) has signed an agreement with Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) to support the provision of life-saving Primary Healthcare for Syrian refugees in Al Za'tari camp in Jordan.
This agreement is a continuation of Qatar's policy of establishing clinics for Syrian refugees.
The Qatari clinics under the supervision of the QRCS have been providing primary healthcare services for over four years and are a major contributor to the healthcare system within the camp. The clinics provide life-saving health services (counselling and treatment) for all ages.
They have also been providing dental services for the last three years, as well as prenatal care.
The implementation of this project follows three phases - 1st Phase will include renewing and reviewing licensing and registering of the Qatari clinics in Za'atari camp. the 2nd Phase includes assessing the status of the infrastructure and equipment of the Qatari clinics.
In order to ensure quality delivery of services and efficient use of resources ensuring all instruments and equipment in the clinic are in good condition and meeting the standards of QRCS and QFFD.
In the 3rd Phase QFFD and QRCS will co-ordinate with UNHCR and Health Working Group in the camp and revise the services packages provided in the clinic.
The main objective is to ensure that all basic health needs are adequately met.
A high-level delegation from QFFD visited Zaatari camp in the beginning of this year to observe the situation in the camp and QFFD-funded health programmes.
As the health systems in the Zaatari camp is facing a major pressure due to large inflow of refugee populations, it becomes a priority tosupport the capacity of healthcare services in the host countries, one of which is Jordan, to help ensure that primary healthcare services to both Syrian refugees and host communities are effectively provided.
This support comes in various forms, including direct support through the provision of equipment and supplies, capacity-building and the strengthening of healthcare system, besides strengthening surveillance, detection, response and prevention of infectious diseases is a priority, as well as increasing access to chronic disease treatment services.
By promoting healthcare systems, QFFD aims to facilitate the inclusion of Syrian refugees and reduce pressure on services to host communities and increase flexibility.
