The Ministry of Municipality and Environment has affirmed the state's interest in supporting and encouraging Qatari farms especially in the field of marketing their products, and to boost local production.
This came during a visit by Assistant Under-Secretary for Agriculture and Fisheries Affairs at the Ministry of Municipality and Environment Sheikh Dr Faleh bin Nasser al-Thani and delegation to Nebeti Farm in Mekaines area. The visit is within the framework of the ministry's interest in local farms for follow-up efforts in its bid to achieve self-sufficiency in vegetables. The delegation visited the farm, which has a number of greenhouses, that produces various ordinary and exotic vegetables.
Sheikh Dr Faleh was briefed by Director General of the Nebeti Farm about the modern farming techniques used, including a modern irrigation system and the use of agriculture without soil (hydroponics). The farm has 17 protected houses for winter production and two chilled houses, in addition to a smart greenhouse on an area of 12,000sqm, for production throughout the year.
