Al Duhail defeated Al Sailiya 2-1 during their QNB Stars League match at the Al Duhail Stadium yesterday.
Al Duhail moved to 14 points with their fourth victory, while Al Sailiya stood on seven points following their third defeat.
The Red Knights thus maintained their unbeaten run. They had drawn their other two games. Al Duhail defeated Qatar SC 2-1, Al Wakrah 4-2 and Al Shahania 1-0, but were held by Al Arabi and Al Rayyan by an identical 1-1 score. Al Duhail, coached by Portuguese Rui Faria, dominated Al Sailiya right throughout in their bid to stay in strong contention for the title.
Khaled Mohamed (24th minute) and Mohanad Ali (90th minute) scored for the winners.
Abdulrahman Mohamed scored Al Sailiya’s goal in the 34th minute. After Khaled put Al Duhail ahead with a long-ranger, Al Sailiya’s Iranian striker Karim Ansari drew a fine save from Al Duhail goalkeeper Amine Lecomte. The deadlock remained until the last minute of regular time before Mohanad Ali, returning from an injury, struck the winning goal. Al Duhail missed the services of Ismail Mohamed and Asim Madibo due to injuries.

Wakrah 3-3 Gharafa
Al Wakrah and Al Gharafa played out an entertaining 3-3 draw at the Al Wakrah Stadium yesterday. Mohamed Benyettou (19th minute), Khalid Muneer (30th) and Ousmane Coulibaly (57th) scored for Al Wakrah.
Al Gharafa’s goals were scored by tournament’s joint top scorer Ahmed Alaaeldin (17th minute), Adlene Guedioura (41st) and Koo Ja-Cheol (60th minute). Promoted side Al Wakrah have seven points and Al Gharafa 11.
It was Al Wakrah’s first draw in this season’s QNB Stars League. The Blue Wave have two victories and three defeats too against their name. Al Gharafa thus registered their second draw, having three wins and one defeat too.
The Cheetahs went in front through the brilliance of in-form forward Ahmed Alaaeldin, who took his tally to six goals, one more than Al Sadd’s Algerian striker Baghdad Bounedjah. Their joy was shortlived as Benyettou put Al Wakrah on level terms and Khalid gave them the lead on the half-hour mark. The fast-paced action saw Guedioura equalise for Al Gharafa before going into half-time break. Al Wakrah too waged a spirited battle and they went in front again near the hour mark through Coulibaly, only to see Koo soon help Al Gharafa draw parity as the teams shared the spoils.
