The Ministry of Education and Higher Education and Huawei are launching the third edition of the annual Huawei Middle East ICT Competition in Qatar, in partnership with Qatar University, Hamad Bin Khalifa University, Carnegie Mellon University and the Community College of Qatar.
The competition will run in Qatar and nine other countries across the Middle East.
It promotes innovation and creativity and acts as a bridge between the classroom and the workforce to nurture information and communications technology (ICT) university students’ talents in the region, increase national ICT competitiveness and develop a generation of ICT leaders ready to drive forward digital transformation.
Registration has opened for the competition in Qatar.
HE Dr Ibrahim al-Nuaimi, Undersecretary at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, said: “ICT is a formative component of Qatar’s future development plans. We must shift our attention towards developing talent within this sector, in order to continue our progression towards becoming an economy driven by knowledge and smart technology. The Huawei ICT Competition is welcome in Qatar for its contributions to the knowledge and understanding of our students.”
Fan Tao, CEO of Huawei Technologies, Qatar, added: “We are proud to launch the third edition of the Huawei ICT Competition in Qatar, providing young talent within the ICT sector with a global platform on which they can demonstrate the progression of their country within this field.”
The competition comprises three stages: preliminary, national final and international final. The top teams will advance to the national final stage, which will take place on October 31.
University professors play the role of the students’ tutors, empowering the participants up to the competition final stage and accompanying the national winners to the Huawei HQ to attend the international final.
