Strong winds are expected in the country on Friday along with thundery rain in the southwestern parts of the country by this afternoon, the weather forecast shows.

Southeasterly-northeasterly winds will blow at speeds of 5-15 knots, which may go up to 25 knots during thundery rain, according to the Qatar Met department.

There is no warning for offshore areas on Friday.

The detailed report for inshore areas says it will be relatively hot during the day and there is a chance of local cloud formation.

These conditions may be accompanied by thundery rain, mainly in the southwestern areas around noon/afternoon.

Slight dust at times and scattered clouds are expected in offshore areas.

The maximum temperature on Friday is expected to be 39C in Abu Samra, 38C in Doha and Dukhan, 37C in Wakrah and Mesaieed, 36C in Al Khor and 35C in Ruwais.

Thursday, the maximum temperature of 41C was recorded in Jumayliyah, followed by 40C in Sheehaniya, Abu Samra and Ghuwairiyah, and 39C in Abu Hamour and Karana.

Doha (airport area) saw a high of 37C on Thursday.
